A desperate hunt is underway for a missing four-year-old girl in South Carolina.
Heidi Renae Todd was last seen at her family home on Tuesday afternoon. She was reported missing at 6pm after police arrived at the house to find her mother brutally beaten.
They had been called to the property when she failed to pick up Heidi's siblings at school.
Cryptically, police say Heidi's disappearance is the result of a home invasion but they will not say that she was abducted and an amber alert has not been issued.
According to authorities, the girl's mother said she was beaten by a Hispanic man of slim build who was in his mid-20s and dressed all in gray.
Heidi's father was away at Coast Guard training when she vanished, they said.
Two other children were inside the family's home when their mother was attacked. They were not harmed.
The four-year-old was wearing a hot pink top and blue pants when she disappeared.
